“Reaching up” increases in intensity through crescendo until it reaches its climax. There are large discrepancies in volume between the loudest and quietest part of each song that is standard in the realm of classical composition but has fallen out of fashion with the shifts in the music industry towards louder volumes. Of note is the constant utilization of dynamics and silence as integral parts of the music. Thomas Hewitt Jones’ modus operandi is to introduce a melody, play it the necessary number of times before moving on to a variation while adding layers before pushing to a climax that is then concluded by either introducing the original melody or by stripping layers and slowing down the tempo and lowering the volume gradually before ending on a piano chord based on the root note.

The record sounds pleasing and the main instruments are given the space to shine while the backing melodies exist to enforce what is being conveyed while not detracting from the essence of this album which is the melody over everything. “Intention” shows one of these elements taking on the role of a breakbeat that works in conjunction with a synth melody that is panned completely to the right to heighten the climatic experience. There are a few electronic elements here that stem from experimentation with sound design that take on a percussive role whenever needed. The electric cello and the piano form the foundation of each composition as they constantly trade roles while the synths play the chord progressions and fill out the missing frequencies on the equalization chart to avoid this record from sounding hollow. Electro Cello is a new take on Neo-romanticism that seeks to focus on the joys of wonder and pensive contemplative.Ī relatively small set of instruments forms the base of the orchestration here. The druming on this demo reminds mw alot of the speed druming Abaddon of Venom used. The sheer rawness and Venom of the music is amazing, DEATH METAL if there ever was any. Tom and Quorthon are among the few who can pull this off without it sounding comical or inane.This demo has great original songs with good memorible riffs. Toms vocals here sound like Lemmys kid brother from Hell.raw, yet tasteful and conviencing in a way 99.9% of the pseudo thräsh bands with 'raw' vocals grandly fail at. Crude raw distortion of Motörhead, crudest punk and early Venom, but with a personality and style unique to themselves. This the 2nd demo by Hellhammer is a musical monster. Track 'Into The Pentagram' here is a bone chilling dark Black Metal classic. Medieval prophecy Ep and their demos remain their Black Death Metal legacy for me. I watched with anticipaton towards Samael's debut album Worship Him (1991) but quite frankly it failed to deliever and was a Black thrash outing at it's best.

Vorphalack hade the most incredible raw dark occult, yet conviencing Black Death Metal voice I'd heard since Quorthon.It had it's own unique character specific to him which made it original. This Ep had a Hellhammer/Gothic Doom metal vibe combined with Quorthon like vocals that almost surpass the master himself. Two brothers with an obvious Bathory and Black Death Metal obession began Samael and recorded a raw demo and in 1988 released this great crude raw Ep or 3 song single. After Bathory began their Pagan metal approach in 1988 there weren't many bands who looked like to continue their specific Black Death Metal legacy but this obscure Swiss band came along.
